LaFortaleza Ranch, Our Story...

LaFortaleza Ranch is more than just a destination—it’s a family legacy. Passed down through generations, the ranch holds a special place in our hearts and our history. The land has been in our family for so long that today, even the great-grandchildren eagerly look forward to their trips to “the ranch,” where the wide-open spaces and natural beauty continue to inspire imagination and adventure.

Originally part of a sprawling 1,000-acre ranch, the land was divided among five siblings. This 200-acre portion, now known as La Fortaleza, carries on the tradition of ranching and outdoor enjoyment. In its early days, La Fortaleza was a bustling working ranch with cattle grazing in the fields, hay being harvested, cowboys at work, and corrals filled with the rhythms of ranch life. Over the years, the ranch has become renowned for its incredible hunting opportunities.

Dove & Upland Hunts

While hunting and grazing have always been integral to the ranch’s history, this year marks a significant milestone. We have opened our unspoiled grounds to bird hunters outside the family. We’re thrilled to share the pristine landscapes of LaFortaleza Ranch with other passionate hunters and to offer unforgettable experiences during dove and quail seasons. Congratulations on choosing LaFortaleza Ranch as your hunting destination. You’re not just visiting a ranch; you’re becoming part of a tradition.

Grant is the Program Manager at LaFortaleza Ranch, where he brings years of expertise and passion for the outdoors to every hunting experience. Originally from Louisiana, Grant moved to Houston, Texas, as a young child, where his love for the outdoors was fostered by countless fishing, hunting, and camping trips with his family. This deep-rooted connection to nature is something he now shares with his four children, instilling in them the same appreciation for wildlife and outdoor adventure that has defined his life.

Grant’s lifelong passion for dogs began with the family Labrador, sparking an interest that has since grown into a commitment to training and handling a skilled team of bird dogs. He manages a diverse pack that includes pointers, flushers, and retrievers, each dog specially trained to enhance the upland and dove hunting experiences offered at Venatura.
